Do you always have a licensed trauma therapist on staff to run groups and for individual 1-on-1 work?

That is the goal! While we build out our programs, we aim to have a licensed trauma therapist in each volunteer, group and 1:1 session.

What are Humor for Hope's long-term, larger dreams, and goals?

Ok, so, we don’t have that kind of time here. BUT, what we will say is our dreams are pretty big. We are hopeful to build out our programs to reach across this country and globe, along with creating communal grounds where individuals can stay, be it short-term or long-term, to find healing through alternative methods, create a sense of community, and contribute to a lifestyle that is focused on connection with each other and the earth.

How can I work in the hospitals?

When you email info@humorforhope.com, let us know you are interested in volunteering with our hospital program. We will set up an interview and go from there! Know that, to be considered, you must have improv experience and that you will be drug tested and a background check will be conducted.

Where are your teaching artists from?

In short, all over. While most are located out of the Chicago area, we have people who hail from all across the country. We do think representation is important so more often than not many of our teaching artists are from the communities we work in. We also love to hire past students and formerly incarcerated individuals to come work with us!

Are all comedians are trained in trauma-informed care?

Yes. Every volunteer, teaching artist, and comedic partner is trained in all areas of trauma-informed care by a licensed trauma therapist.

How does Humor for Hope fund its programs?

We are a grassroots organization, meaning we get much of our funding through donors just like yourself! We also have the honor of being a recipient of a few national grants that allow us to do what we do.

We provide populations suffering from structural, community, and individual trauma, displacement, or illness an opportunity to experience improvisational comedy as a therapeutic intervention.
